More Tour and Travel Advice for Europe
Travelers cheques are a useful way to carry cash as if you loose them they can be replaced.
If you do choose to use travelers cheques we recommend you bring them in Euro for European tours and Pounds Sterling for tours through Great Britain. US Dollar travelers cheques are sometimes accepted and exchangeable however other currencies such as Canadian, Australian, New Zealand Dollars, Rand, etc, are often difficult to exchange.
Internationally recognized cheques from a company such as Thomas Cook (official site), Travelex (official site) or American Express (official site) are highly recommended as are small denomination cheques (10’s, 20’s and 50’s)
Remember to make a copy and keep a record of your travelers cheque numbers, leave one copy at home and carry another copy separate to the cheques in case of loss or theft.

do you use the bank cash cards like you would a savings or credit card? you know with ATM’s?

find out if your bank has “cash cards” ive just found out that both the commonwealth and anz banks in australia have this and it is an awesome alternative to traveller’s cheques. easy to replace and often cheaper than the commission and fees on traveller’s cheques.

Some (not very many) retail stores will accept travellers cheques…..you can cash them at banks or foreign exchange offices as well.

If I bring travellers cheques, where can I cash them on? Will I be able to cash them on the bus (on the European Discovery tour) or at places we stop (such as hotels)?

Stick to ATMs – and bring two 4 digit pins ATM cards (if you can). Credit cards for large puchases. Notify your financial institutions of your travel dates.

Some other suggestions, although not necessary - Travel pillow, chewing gum (especially for those who have ear problems during flight), book and/or ipod and one change of clothing (air lines do lose luggage occasionally)
Make sure you try currywurst in Germany. It's basically a hot dog with tomato sauce (ketchup) and curry powder. Tastes brilliant and only costs 1 or 2 Euro.
I bought a high sierra duffel bag - it has a zip down panel on the back and you can pull out the back pack straps…I also have a laptop back pack…
