Modulated tours are tours that have shorter tours operating within the itinerary of a longer tour.

This means that people on the shorter tours hop or hop off the bus during the longer tour at the city their tours starts or finishes in.

For example, the California Highlights (Las Vegas to LA) tour is a module of the longer Wild Western tour (LA to LA). People travelling on the the California Highlights meet up and tour join the tour in Las Vegas. The Tour began as the Wild Western tour began a few days before in LA (Anaheim) and both will finish together in LA.

The same bus is used and all the tours are run by the same tour manager and driver.

It is therefore common to have people who have booked on different tours travelling together on the same bus for either part of all of the longer tour.

As with all Contiki Tours, you should make your way to the hotel where your tour is departing from and you will receive this information in your Contiki Travel Documents and usually the same tour manager and driver will run all the modulated tours for the entire length of the longest tour.

Most of Contiki’s tours in Australia, New Zealand, and North America operate as Modulated tours while a small number of tours in Europe also operate in this fashion with examples below.

North America

Grand Canadian is a module of both the Grand Northern (New York to Toronto) and Canada and the Rockies (Vancouver onwards).

North By North East (New York to Chicago) and Northern Escape (Chicago to LA) are modules of the longer Grand Northern.

Southern Adventure (LA to New Orleans or New Orleans to LA) and Eastern Discovery (New Orleans to New York or New York to New Orleans) are modules of the longer Grand Southern.

LA to the Bay (LA to San Francisco), Western Highlights (LA to Las Vegas) and California Highlights (Las Vegas to LA) are modules of the longer Wild Western.

The first part of the Grand Canadian is a part of the Grand Northern (up to Toronto) at which point the tour splits and the people on the Grand Canadian Tour fly to Vancouver to meet up with and join those on the Canada and the Rockies tour along with a new tour manager and driver

Southern Ireland, Great Britain and Scotland tours are modules of the longer Great Britain and Southern Ireland tour.

Berlin and Prague plus Vienna, Berlin and Prague and Vienna and Budapest are modules of the longer Berlin to Budapest.

Russia and the Baltic and Scandinavia are modules of the longer Russia and Scandinavia

London and Paris is the base module with the extensions London and Pris plus 2 Days Paris. London and Paris plus Amsterdam and London and Paris plus Rome. (ie The tour will start with a large group and will split in Paris depending on each individuals next destination)
