Please Note: Contiki stopped visiting Andalsnes in 2007
Andalsnes is a tiny village on the west coast of Norway, a region famed for its spectacular scenery and giant coastal fjords. Due to is simply amazing natural wonders, this quiet corner of the country is also arguably the most memorable and popular region of Norway. The most famous of these being the Geiranger Fjord.
Sometimes known as the ‘Troll Road’, this road wides up along the mountains along 11 super tight hairpin bends but the views of the road and the mountains from the top are worth the drive.
One of Norway’s most visited natural attractions, people travel from all over the world to see the natural beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage Listed site. Easily the best way to see the Fjord, it steep sides and many waterfalls is by taking a cruise on the fjord. Most Contiki tours staying in Andalsnes offer a Geiranger Fjord Cruise as an optional excursion.
I had the pleasure of seeing the wonderful scenery of Andalsnes on my Scandi & Russia tour in June this year.. what a shame to hear that Contiki will no longer be visiting it – future travellers are missing out on something special and amazing.
