Airboat Swamp Tour

Louisiana is known for its swamps and bayous. These areas are full of Cajun and Creole culture and really showcase the natural beauty of New Orleans! If you’ve never been out on a swamp, this optional is a must! From flying through the swamp on a genuine swamp boat with the giant fan on the back, to chasing alligators – you’ll come home with an experience you’ll never forget! Who knows, you may even get lucky enough to touch an alligator!

The BEST optional excursion ever offered! I’m so glad I decided to go on the airboats. I’d never seen an alligator, and in the space of 2 hours, I got to see about 8 of them, hold one, and have one nearly come up onto the boat! The swamp guides are really informative as well. If you only do one optional, do this one!!

Make sure you try currywurst in Germany. It's basically a hot dog with tomato sauce (ketchup) and curry powder. Tastes brilliant and only costs 1 or 2 Euro.
My best advice is to step outside your comfort zone and make an effort to talk to EVERYONE on tour. I made friends from 6 continents on the one tour!!!
A tip for people looking for a decent coffee shop.. if you don't already know about it, you will because most Contiki travellers find out about it - its The Grasshopper. Ask a local and they should be able to tell you where to find it.
